US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking from Florida after President Trump's press conference, stressed that the United States has never recognized Nicolás Maduro as the legitimate president of Venezuela, recalling that since 2020, he has been under federal indictment and declared internationally wanted by US justice.
" Nicolás Maduro is not the president of Venezuela. He has not been recognized by the first Trump administration, nor by the Biden administration, nor by the second Trump administration. Nor does the European Union recognize him as such. He is a fugitive from American justice, with a $50 million reward for his capture ," Rubio declared.
He also revealed that Maduro had several opportunities to avoid this scenario. “ He was offered several opportunities – very, very generous – to exit calmly and with dignity. But he chose to act like a madman, to play with time and with fate. The result is what we saw tonight ,” Rubio said.
