Batool, an 18-year-old Palestinian girl, sent the BBC a voice message from Gaza City one morning.
The message said that people in Gaza have been suffering for a long time and are looking forward to a peaceful night's sleep.
"My name is not important. The names of my friends are not important. Our stories are not important. We are just numbers, that's how the world sees us" , she said.
A stranger asks: Well, how are you feeling?
"Thank you for your question. We don't feel. We don't cry. We don't have time to mourn our loved one because others are being killed. We don't have time to feel. We only have time to smell the death that is getting closer and closer. We only have time to sit in a room and hug each other, asking God to take our souls together," said Batool.
Asked if she's asking too much, the 18-year-old says she just wants a normal day in her life.
"We can't wait to sleep a whole night without being terrified by the sound of falling bombs. We look forward to showering, being tired at the end of a normal day, talking about all things death, martyrs and blood, and hearing a laugh from a child. Are we asking for so much, O world?", said the young woman from the city of Gaza.
