The exercise would include 90 thousand soldiers, as it will be a kind of simulation in case of an armed conflict with Moscow...
Has another Cold War begun? NATO is preparing a major military exercise, the likes of which have not been seen since the Iron Curtain. It's called Steadfast Defender 2024. The exercise will begin next week and last until May, involving around 90,000 soldiers, as well as aircraft, aerial surveillance systems, drones, heavy artillery, ships and submarines.
It's a kind of rapid reaction test in case of a Russian attack against one of the 31 member states (soon 32 with the entry of Sweden). For this occasion, thousands of soldiers coming directly from the United States will land in Europe.
It is not yet clear where exactly the maneuvers will take place, but NATO headquarters in Brussels say the exercise will cover a wide area that includes Germany, Poland, Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania. According to other sources, the simulations will also focus on the so-called "Suwalki Corridor", the strip of territory along the border between Poland and Lithuania, with an eye on the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad.
It is no coincidence that last Monday, January 15, the German newspaper Bild revealed a secret report drawn up by the Ministry of Defense, which reported how the Kremlin was moving troops into Belarus, in view of a possible attack, within a year , exactly in the «Suwalkii Corridor». A hypothesis dismissed as "nonsense" by the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
American General Chris Cavoli, commander of Allied Forces in Europe, stated that "Steadfast Defender 2024 will demonstrate NATO's ability to strengthen the movement of resources and assets from North America to Europe". Dutch Admiral Rob Bauer, president of the Alliance's military committee, warned: "Western countries must expect the unexpected. If we want to be truly effective, even in the future, we must prepare a war-ready NATO. It is necessary that public entities and private to change their mentality. We are moving from an era in which everything was planned, predictable, controllable, to an era in which anything can happen at any moment". / Pamphlet
