Today, another Palestinian journalist was killed in an Israeli airstrike in the Gaza Strip, bringing to 119 the number of journalists killed since October 7.
A statement from the media office said that Wael Abu Fannouna was killed in Gaza City, but gave no further details. The number of Palestinian journalists killed by Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip has surpassed the number of journalists killed worldwide in 2021 and 2022 combined.
According to local and international data, 109 journalists were killed worldwide in 2021 and 2022, while at least 119 Palestinian journalists have been killed in Gaza since October 7.
Israel has been attacking the Gaza Strip since a cross-border attack by Hamas on October 7, in which Tel Aviv says nearly 1,200 people were killed. More than 24,600 Palestinians have been killed since then, mostly women and children, and another 61,830 injured, according to local health authorities.
According to the UN, 85 percent of the population in Gaza is already internally displaced, facing acute shortages of food, clean water and medicine, while 60 percent of the enclave's infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed.
