NATO surpasses Russia in ammunition production, Rutte's message to Moscow:

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has declared that the alliance has surpassed Russia in ammunition production, a key moment for strengthening Europe's defense and supporting Ukraine against Russian aggression.

Until recently, Russia produced more ammunition than all NATO allies combined. But not anymore ,” Rutte said, adding that this had changed thanks to the expansion of production capacities across the alliance. “ We are opening dozens of new production lines and expanding existing ones. We are producing more than we have done in decades ,” he added.

He underlined the importance of the defense industry for Europe's security: " There is simply no strong defense without a strong defense industry ." According to him, NATO leaders have decided to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP by 2035 and accelerate the procurement of critical systems such as drones, munitions and air defense.

Rutte also warned of long-term challenges, citing Russia's growing military cooperation with China, Iran and North Korea. " They are increasing their defense industrial cooperation to unprecedented levels and are preparing for long-term confrontation. We must be smarter than those who seek to harm us ," he said.

According to Rutte, Europe is able to produce six times more artillery shells each year than two years ago, with a target of 2 million rounds by the end of the year. This increase in industrial capacity is seen as a key element in ensuring the security and sustainability of the alliance in a time of global uncertainty.
