What is the American President expected to say, will he respond to the rumors that have been circulating the web in recent days, and why will all the attention be on the White House?
Over 200,000 messages on the social media platform Truth Social last weekend centered on the same topic: the sudden death of Donald Trump. The rumors arose because the US president had withdrawn from public life for several days and the White House had not provided any information about his whereabouts.
But now the world knows for sure: the news of the sudden death of the 79-year-old US president was fake. Trump is alive. The photos showed the President on the traditional golf course over the weekend (according to the website www.didtrumpgolftoday.com, the US president is spending almost 25 percent of his second term on the golf course).
Then Trump himself reacted. He told his followers on Truth Social that he had “never felt better in my entire life.” Trump provided definitive proof that he was fine a little later with one of his social media outbursts, complaining about political rivals.
But Trump has yet to completely shut down the debate about his health. The signs of physical deterioration of the oldest US president to ever enter the White House were very visible: bruises on his hands, which the Republican team apparently tried to cover up with makeup, swollen ankles and increasingly frequent mental problems. Even photos that supposedly showed Trump playing golf over the weekend were not recent, according to an investigation by the American news portal Newsweek.
Such rumors have likely been painful for Donald Trump himself, assuming he is still cognitively capable of perceiving them. The former reality TV star and beauty pageant host has always placed great importance on his appearance. During the US election campaign, Trump, as the Republican candidate, repeatedly highlighted the poor health of his rival, Joe Biden, who is four years his senior.
Finally, Trump seems to want to respond to the rumors in person and live on television. As first reported by the Daily Beast, a mysterious "US Presidential Announcement" appears on Trump's official agenda, which the White House Press Office regularly publishes.
It is scheduled to take place today, Tuesday (September 2, 2025), at 2:00 p.m. local time. Further details on the content of the announcement or the reason for it have not yet been released. The White House has so far left questions unanswered.
How presidential succession is regulated in the US
The line of succession in the United States is clearly defined: if a president is no longer able to fulfill his or her duties for any reason (e.g., death, resignation, impeachment, or disability), the vice president, who is also elected by name, assumes the office for the remainder of his or her term. If the vice president is also unavailable, power passes to the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. The line of succession includes a total of 18 positions, ending with the Secretary of Homeland Security (currently Kristi Noem).
Vance, 41, has long been considered one of the favorites to succeed Trump as Republican leader.
