The year 2025 has been another year of war in Europe, but the Old Continent is not the only theater of open or latent conflicts that contribute to the deterioration of international security and that, to varying degrees, are affecting our country and the European region.
Therefore, below you can read a brief summary of those crisis areas that could easily deteriorate or that are already experiencing more or less open conflicts.
Europe: The War in Ukraine and the Russian Threat
The war in Ukraine, although it seems to be on the path to resolution due to the radical change in the US stance towards Russia, remains the main crisis area for European security. The deployment of Russian ballistic missiles in Belarus represents a serious attack on the strategic stability of the continent. The conflict has led to a deterioration of relations between European countries and Russia, with an escalation of Moscow's hybrid war against Europe. Particularly worrying is the narrative that Russian propaganda is using towards some countries on its borders (the Baltic countries and Finland), which is the same one that was used for Ukraine before the invasion: discrimination against Russian-speaking minorities and the spread of Nazi policies. The Russian hybrid threat to Western European countries, which are therefore not susceptible to this narrative, with the exception of the return of Nazism, is expressed through (increasing) cyberattacks, disinformation, sabotage and destructive drone operations operated by personnel not affiliated with Russia.

Pavarësisht hezitimit të vendeve aziatike që kufizojnë atë det, për shkak të lidhjeve të tyre ekonomike me Pekinin dhe frikës nga një kundërshtar ushtarakisht më i fuqishëm, gara e armatimeve vazhdon dhe Vietnami, tani një mik i SHBA-së, ka përshpejtuar militarizimin e ishujve në Detin e Kinës Jugore që i ka pushtuar në një përpjekje për të kufizuar/kundërshtuar procesin identik të zbatuar nga Kina.

Kriza në Gaza është qetësuar vetëm përkohësisht dhe dinamika e konfliktit mbetet e pranishme pavarësisht luftës 12-ditore midis Izraelit dhe Iranit dhe mbërritjes së një qeverie të re në Siri. Misionarët e Teheranit në Jemen vazhdojnë veprimet e tyre armiqësore kundër trafikut detar në Detin e Kuq, duke angazhuar forcat detare evropiane dhe amerikane në misione shoqërimi për anijet tregtare që zgjedhin atë rrugë ujore në vend të lundrimit të gjatë rreth Afrikës. Besohet se Irani po rikuperohet nga dëmi i shkaktuar programit të tij bërthamor nga bombardimet e konfliktit të shkurtër të qershorit dhe, më e rëndësishmja, ka filluar të përmirësojë aftësitë e tij të goditjeve me rreze të gjatë veprimi (raketa balistike, raketa lundrimi dhe dronë), duke sugjeruar hapjen e afërt të një faze të re në konfliktin me Izraelin. Ndërkohë, Tel Avivi vazhdon të godasë forcat armiqësore në Liban dhe të kryejë operacione të synuara në Gaza.

The build-up of US naval and air forces in the Caribbean suggests the possibility of direct military action aimed not only at eliminating drug traffickers but also at irreversibly undermining the stability of Maduro's socialist regime, hoping for its overthrow, spurred by the population and a political opposition supported by Washington. Caracas has mobilized its armed forces and enjoys Russian military support (new air defense systems, instructors, and paramilitary forces have arrived), as well as diplomatic support from countries hostile to the United States. The White House narrative regarding concessions for the exploitation of hydrocarbons in Venezuela is simply a cover for the forcible return of a policy closely linked to the Monroe Doctrine of excluding non-American presence on the continent.
Sudan and Libya, Russian penetration and threats to European interests
The civil war in Sudan involves international actors hostile to European interests. The country is the scene of a confrontation between the fragmented government and opposition forces, supported by various international actors, including Russia and even Ukraine, who see the internal conflict as a way to weaken their adversary (the Ukrainian case) and an opportunity to establish a lasting presence, open up new spheres of influence and oppose European policies in Central and East Africa. In Libya, Russia's presence is also being consolidated outside Cyrenaica, with increased operational capacity at its military base in the southeastern region, including an air base.
In the divided country, there is an increasingly frequent presence of potentially hostile foreign actors, such as Belarus, China and non-aligned actors, such as India, who propose themselves as security providers and suppliers of low-cost OT (Operational Technology) infrastructures that pose the real risk of externally controlled control of national policies and telematic data. /Adapted from Il Giornale /
