Oil Strait "freezes", only one ship passes today!
Strait of Hormuz

Maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz has been almost blocked, with only one oil tanker passing through today as of 5:30 PM Tehran time.

The tanker "Mab 5", flagged by Botswana and sanctioned by the United States, appears to have passed through this strategic waterway, based on AIS data from the MarineTraffic tracking platform.

However, the analysis highlights that the data may not be complete, as some ships may deactivate their AIS systems, thus avoiding public tracking of movements.

In addition to the oil tanker, a small Indian-flagged merchant ship has exited the strait towards the Gulf of Oman. Meanwhile, two other cargo ships, one Panamanian-flagged and the other Indian-flagged, have passed towards the Persian Gulf.

The Strait of Hormuz is a key point for global energy trade, with about a fifth of the world's oil supply passing through it. According to Lloyd's List, under normal conditions, about 107 cargo ships pass through the route every day.

The current drop in traffic comes after US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between the US and Iran. The situation has raised concerns about global supplies of oil, natural gas and fertilizers, putting pressure on prices and raising the risk of shortages in international markets.
