US President Donald Trump hosted Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for a meeting today. But during the press conference, there was an awkward moment. An Australian journalist asked Trump if previous comments by their ambassador to Washington had influenced his views on the Australian administration.
That ambassador, who was sitting on the other side of the table, is former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.
In 2020, Rudd wrote on social media that he believed Trump was the "most destructive" president in US history.
These comments were deleted in November 2024 after Trump's election victory, saying he did so "out of respect" for the office of president.
Trump appeared not to recognize Rudd at the table - but once he was identified, Trump quickly made his views known. "I don't like you and I probably never will," he said.
