A prosecutor in Turkey has requested a 108-year prison sentence for an 18-year-old man involved in a knife attack. the young man faces charges of "attempted murder" and "threats to cause fear and panic in the public".
As Hurriyet Daily News reports, 18-year-old Arda K was wearing a bulletproof vest with Nazi symbols, a Nazi-style helmet and a mask when he attacked people with a knife and an ax in the western province of Eskişehir on August 12, 2024. From the attack 5 people were injured.
Arda K attacked various locations in the province, including a tea house in the garden of a mosque, a nearby park and a tram station, while live-streaming the attack from a camera attached to his body. He was arrested shortly after the incident.
He said in his statement that he was ordered to carry out the attack by a stranger he met on a gaming platform, who claimed to be of Eastern European origin and a year or two older than the 18-year-old, about six to seven months before the attack.
In fact, the 18-year-old described how he and his "superior" bonded over time, talking about guns, bombs and armed attacks, and that he shared with the person a draft of possible locations for his planned attack. .
After discussing the matter with the stranger, he decided to carry out the attack on a mosque in the Tepebaşı neighborhood in the end, noting that he emblazoned the assault vest he bought online with Nazi symbols that matched his political ideology of Nazism, called officially National Socialism.
In the indictment, on the other hand, it is said that the cybercrime teams were not able to identify the person with whom the 18-year-old claims to have contacted before the attack, but also the platform on which they were talking.
