The US Navy has conducted a large-scale operation in the eastern Pacific Ocean, where over 34 tons of cocaine were seized.
The operation includes 20 naval interventions, with an average of 820 kilograms of cocaine seized each day, as well as the arrest of 59 people suspected of drug trafficking.
The US Department of Homeland Security has described this campaign as a "real blow against the cartels."
Tough policy against cartels
This offensive comes in the wake of the tough approach promoted by Donald Trump to combat drug trafficking and organized crime. Coast Guard Deputy Director Jeffrey Novak emphasized that “the results achieved with Operation Pacific Viper demonstrate our commitment to dismantling transnational criminal and terrorist organizations.”
The power and determination of the operation show that Washington is not content with stopping trafficking, but is advancing towards directly neutralizing narcoterrorist groups, including the fearsome Tren de Aragua organization, whose members have been killed in recent operations against naval vessels coming from Venezuela.
From the Galapagos to the Caribbean
Footage released by the Coast Guard shows the seizure of 2,500 kilograms of cocaine from a “low-profile” vessel northeast of the Galapagos Islands on September 10. The seizures illustrate the geographic scope of the operation, which covers thousands of kilometers of open sea. The strategy combines satellite monitoring, maritime intelligence and international cooperation, interdicting high-speed boats, semi-submarine craft and ships loaded with drugs destined for the US market.
Cooperation and continuity of the offensive
The Joint Interagency Task Force South, based in Florida, coordinates operations in cooperation with U.S. Southern Command and partner country law enforcement and maritime authorities. This international cooperation structure strengthens the United States' ability to disrupt drug trafficking routes in the maritime corridor connecting South and North America. Official spokespeople have confirmed that Operation Pacific Viper will continue on an ongoing basis, with increased tactical engagement and expanded information sharing to neutralize new routes used by cartels.
