US President Donald Trump's health continues to cause a stir. Recently, photos of his heavily made-up hands made the rounds around the world. Now, the spotlight is back on the 79-year-old: after his return from the UK, the Don's swollen ankles were clearly visible as he stepped off a helicopter with First Lady Melania.
A video shows Trump carefully descending the steps of Air Force One, holding on. The visible swelling of his ankles was undeniable to observers, and the US media is currently devoting extensive coverage to the images.
The Daily Beast described Trump's appearance in dramatic terms like "swollen ankles" and "damaged ankles." Trump's enlarged ankles were also revealed after he arrived in the United Kingdom on Tuesday evening to negotiate a $42 billion deal.
In addition to the swollen feet, Trump has persistent blemishes on his right hand that are often covered up with makeup. A mysterious white spot was also spotted on Trump's hand during meetings with King Charles and Queen Camilla, as well as Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The president's apparent health issues have sparked debate on social media. As The Daily Beast reports, the White House even cropped official photos to hide Trump's swollen ankles. During a meeting with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, images were cropped so that the ankles were not visible. Another official photo showed Trump's ankles strategically hidden behind a model of Air Force One on the coffee table in the Oval Office.
The physical constraints are also evident in other meetings. The New York Times has already reported that Trump is now holding more meetings in the Oval Office because he no longer has to stay there for long periods.
In July, it was revealed that Trump had been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency. Press secretary Caroline Leavitt said that Trump, 79, underwent a “comprehensive examination, including vascular diagnostic studies” with the White House Medical Unit. The examination revealed chronic venous insufficiency, “a benign and common condition, especially in individuals over the age of 70,” according to Trump’s physician, Sean Barbabella.
According to the White House, no signs of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease were found. The examination included diagnostic vascular studies and bilateral Doppler ultrasound of the lower extremities.
