The Daily Mail has revealed the behind-the-scenes story of a fight between chefs at Windsor Castle and the US Secret Service during a lavish dinner hosted by King Charles III to welcome President Donald Trump to Britain.
As the 160 VIP guests enjoyed a three-course dinner in the refined surroundings of St George's Hall at Windsor Castle, tensions "downstairs" were beginning to boil.
Sources for the Daily Mail have revealed that several members of the Secret Service team, who were assigned to protect the American President, entered the kitchen to supervise the preparation of food by the royal chefs and even tasted the food, which some of the chefs felt was a disturbing interference in their work.
While the guests knew nothing, the atmosphere in the kitchen quickly became tense and the situation deteriorated when voices began to be raised between the kitchen staff and the American security agents.
"The dinner was a huge success in the hall, but backstage there was a scuffle. Tensions flared between the chefs preparing the meal and the American security team overseeing the protection of the President and his entourage. The chefs, who were trying to serve three courses perfectly, became frustrated when American agents constantly checked and even tasted the food," a source from Windsor Castle told the Daily Mail.
But Palace officials categorically denied the claims of a clash, calling them "completely untrue" and adding that relations with American colleagues were extremely warm and supportive throughout.
