Panic in Moscow, Kremlin: We shot down 5 Ukrainian drones

Russia claims to have shot down and captured several Ukrainian drones over Moscow and according to the Kremlin this was like a "terrorist attack".

A statement from the Ministry of Defense said four of the five drones heading to Moscow were downed, while another was jammed, causing disruptions at the capital's main airports.

From this incident, flights from Russia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt were diverted to other Moscow airports.

"There were no casualties or damage as a result of the terrorist attack," the statement said.

Three drones were intercepted in the sky over the Moscow region, with two of them just 30 km southwest of the Kremlin. One drone was discovered in the neighboring Kaluga region and another crashed in the town of Kubinka, according to Russian news agency RIA.

A fifth drone was intercepted and crashed in the Odintsovo district, a suburb west of Moscow.

"The attempt of the Kiev regime to attack an area where civilian infrastructure is located, including the airport, where there are also foreign flights, is another act of terrorism. The international community must understand that the United States, Britain, France - permanent members of the UN Security Council - are financing a terrorist regime", said the spokeswoman of the foreign ministry, Maria Zakharova.

There is still no reaction from Kiev to Moscow's claims, while in a similar scheme Ukrainian authorities were accused of a drone attack on the capital in May.

At the time, the Ministry of Defense said at the time that eight drones were involved in the "terrorist" action and that they all crashed.

During an interview given at the time, President Vladimir Putin claimed the attack was aimed at "civilian targets" and promised to improve air defenses.

Meanwhile, Russia has continued its missile and drone attacks in Ukraine. Three people were confirmed dead and 21 others were injured after an attack in the northeastern city of Sumy damaged two apartment blocks.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the attack also damaged the regional headquarters of the Security Service of Ukraine, the country's main intelligence agency, and took the opportunity to ask Western allies to increase supplies of air defense systems to help ward off Russian attacks.
