Putin issued the ominous threat, saying that the moment he deploys the Oreshnik missile system with a full charge on Ukrainian territory, he will issue a humanitarian warning for citizens to leave.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has broken his silence on the latest moves on the battlefield. He spoke about this morning's attacks in the central Ukrainian city of Dnipro, which used medium-range ballistic missiles that can also carry nuclear warheads.
Putin said the attack was a response to the use of American and British long-range weaponry by Ukrainian forces, sending a clear warning to the West that escalation will have consequences. He admitted that Russia had tested a non-nuclear hypersonic missile, which he said was successful.
" In response to the use of American and British long-range weaponry on November 21 of this year, the Russian armed forces carried out a combined attack on one of the facilities of the military-industrial complex of Ukraine. In combat conditions, a test was carried out of one of the latest medium-range missile systems, in this case, with a non-nuclear hypersonic version of a ballistic missile, the test was successful ," Putin is reported to have said.
Further, the Russian president stated that this morning's attack targeted a Ukrainian weapons factory in the city of Dnipropetrovsk.
" One of the largest industrial complexes known since the Soviet era has been hit on the territory of Ukraine, in the city of Dnipropetrovsk. It is still producing missiles and other weapons ," he adds.
His comments came hours after Kiev accused Russia of using an intercontinental ballistic missile for the first time in history amid a wider rocket attack overnight in the city of Dnipro. Western officials cited in media reports later disputed Kiev's claim, saying the overnight attacks in Ukraine had only used ballistic missiles.
" I repeat, the combat testing of the Oreshnik missile system is being carried out by us in response to NATO's aggressive actions against Russia ," Putin said.
Putin warned the West that Moscow could strike the military factories of any country whose weapons have been used against Russia. He also said that attacks on Russia by Western weapons would not change the outcome of Russia's "special operation" and that Moscow would respond symmetrically to any escalation.
"We consider ourselves justified in using our weapons against military targets in those countries that allow their weapons to be used against our facilities. In the event of an escalation of aggressive actions, we will respond decisively and accordingly ," he continued.
