France expressed surprise at the participation of a European Commission official in the meeting called by US President Donald Trump in Washington, known as the "Peace Board".
French Foreign Ministry spokesman Pascal Confavreux stated that the European Commission does not have a mandate from the European Council to represent the European Union member states at this meeting.
" As for the European Commission and its participation, we are actually surprised, because it does not have a mandate from the Council to go and participate ," Confavreux told reporters.
He added that, according to Paris' position, the "Peace Board" should refocus on Gaza, in accordance with a UN Security Council resolution.
Confavreux stressed that France will not participate in Trump's meeting until the uncertainties regarding the role and mandate of the European Commission are clarified.
