Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated today that the venue for the next round of negotiations on Ukraine will be determined only after a thorough analysis of the results of the two-day talks in Geneva (February 17-18), which were held in a trilateral format between Russia, the US and Ukraine.
According to Peskov, Russian President Vladimir Putin has already been directly informed by the Russian negotiating team about the developments in Geneva. Peskov stressed that Russia cannot yet determine anything concrete about the location of the upcoming negotiations.
" No, we can't say anything yet. The decision will be made after analyzing the meetings that took place in Geneva ," Peskov said.
He added that there have been no new contacts with the American side after Geneva, nor are any planned at the moment, but the issue will be reviewed.
"The further schedule will depend on the Americans ," he added.
One of the strongest points of Peskov's statement was his tough stance towards the European Union. He said that no European representative is participating in the negotiation process. According to him, the stance of most European capitals contributes more to the continuation of the war than to a peaceful solution.
" The Europeans are not present at the negotiating table. They are not present in the negotiation process in general. The overwhelming majority of views expressed in European capitals tend to contribute more to the continuation of the war than to efforts for a peaceful solution. For now, of the participants in the trilateral format, Russia sees no sense in the participation of the Europeans. This is unlikely to be useful ," he said.
Ukraine and the US reported some meaningful progress, but without any major territorial gains or security guarantees. Peskov stressed that work continues and that the process is at a stage that does not allow for detailed public discussions.
