Euro MP Eva Kaili made her first public appearance at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, a few months after being released from prison. The Greek MEP, whose name is included in the Qatargate scandal, has returned to the chairs of the European Parliament.
She attended a speech by exiled Belarusian opposition leader Sviatlana Chikhanuskaya, who called on European allies to continue supporting the people of Belarus in their fight for freedom against Vladimir Putin's "appetites".
Kaili was arrested on December 9, along with eight other people, including her partner Francesco Giorgi, a parliamentary assistant who had worked with former Brussels MEP Antonio Panzeri, who also ended up in prison.
Kaili was accused of trying to influence the decisions of the European Parliament regarding Qatar in exchange for money, but this charge was not proved and she was released from the cell.
