Following the arrest of Nicolás Maduro by US forces in an unprecedented operation in Venezuela, international tensions have not subsided, on the contrary, another front is rising to the north: Greenland. And this time it is not only official diplomacy that is raising alarm, but also a symbolic post that has ignited the geopolitical flame.
Katie Miller, the wife of the White House deputy chief of staff, posted on the X network a map of Greenland covered with the American flag, with the inscription: “COMING SOON.” This message was published just a day after the military operation in Caracas, and was interpreted as a clear signal that the US is not stopping in the southern hemisphere, but intends to reinforce its presence in the north, in one of the most strategic points on the planet.
The reaction was not long in coming. Denmark's ambassador to the US, Jesper Møller Sørensen, publicly demanded "full respect for the territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark," reminding Washington that Greenland, despite its autonomy, is not for sale and is not a land without a lord.

But this is not the first time that President Donald Trump has cited the annexation of Greenland as a strategic American interest. Since his first term, he has openly stated that Greenland should become part of the United States for reasons of national security and mineral wealth. And in December of last year, he appointed Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry as a special US envoy for Greenland, raising the issue at a direct diplomatic level.
Following the Venezuelan precedent, many analysts see the Greenland warning as part of a new Trumpian doctrine: identifying territories of strategic value and attempting to bring them into the direct sphere of American influence, by any means possible.
