The United States used advanced cyber capabilities to cut off electricity and internet connections in the capital Caracas, as part of a coordinated operation that led to the arrest of Nicolás Maduro.
President Donald Trump, at a press conference from Mar-a-Lago, declared: “ It was dark. The lights of Caracas were off because of a certain technology that we possess. It was dark and it was deadly .”
Gen. Dan Kane, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, added that U.S. Cyber Command and U.S. Space Command, along with combat forces, implemented “various measures” to create an operational corridor for U.S. forces that landed in the country early Saturday. Details on those measures were not made public.
The independent organization NetBlocks reported widespread internet outages in Caracas at the same time as the power outages, raising suspicions of a targeted attack on the regime's critical infrastructure.
This development underscores that the US has entered an era where its military power is combined with cyber technology, turning darkness into a state weapon.
