Vučić has no allies in either the East or the West. He only has partners who know very well how to profit from and exploit his vanities...
While top officials from the European Union and the Western Balkans discussed “A World That Has Gone Out of Control” in Bled, the Serbian president headed to the Far East. After meetings in Beijing with Putin and Xi Jinping, he announced new investments and flying cars. While Vučić called those in Bled obstructionists, the Slovenian Foreign Ministry announced that the Serbian president had not been invited to Bled even though he had requested an invitation.
-Western officials at a meeting in the neighborhood, the Serbian president went in the opposite direction.
From faraway China, from a military parade, he boasts that he chose better company. He said that Prime Minister Đuro Macut was right not to go.
Vučić's claims that he and the Prime Minister did not meet with EU representatives of their own free will are denied by 'N1 Slovenia' sources, who state that the president requested an invitation to Bled, but did not receive one.
The Slovenian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs says their arrival was unplanned.
"Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić and Serbian Prime Minister Đuro Macut were not invited to the Bled Strategic Forum. Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Đurić, who participated in the Forum, was invited," the Slovenian ministry said in a statement.
The fact that he did not receive an invitation greatly offended and angered the president, notes foreign policy commentator Bosko Jaksic, but he is not surprised by such an action by the Slovenians. He reminds us that this country is among the few in the European Union that has been openly critical of his policies.
"So this is a well-thought-out message to the president – no, you are not welcome here. You are not welcome to spread your demagogy and to tease the minds of Europeans. Even where he went, he did not show himself realistically and had the status of a third-class guest ," Jaksic said.
In front of the media that supports him, the Serbian president is trying to present the exact opposite of what happened.
All of this is for internal use and for his voters, says journalist Andrej Ivanji. At the same time, the president may be warning the West that he could completely switch to the "other side."
Ivanji added that desperate moves are being made in diplomacy, as was the case recently when Vučić wrote a response to an editorial in the Guardian, which ended with a report from the market.
" He doesn't have proper foreign policy advisors to tell him not to do this. This is not just a shame for him, it's a shame for the entire Republic of Serbia. What does the president of a country have to do with letter-writing and protests?" Ivanji said.
It is becoming increasingly clear in the Western countries, mainly in the European Union, with whom they are dealing, that he is, in principle, a man who is slowly disillusioning himself.
"Vučić has no allies in either the East or the West. He only has partners who know very well how to take advantage of and exploit his vanities. But ultimately, we can ask ourselves, why should we pretend that Serbia's foreign policy would be better than its domestic policy ," Jakšić concluded./ Adapted from "Pamphlet" by "N1"
