Moments of panic and fear have been experienced by the 367 passengers and 12 crew members of the 'Japan Airlines' plane, which collided with a coast guard plane and burst into flames shortly after landing at Tokyo's Haneda airport.
But how did they manage to save all the people who were on board 'Japan Airlines'.
Passengers went to the emergency exits without their luggage, in accordance with the instructions of the flight crew.
Leaving their valuables behind was a 'major factor' behind the rapid evacuation of the 379 people on board just before the plane burst into flames on the runway at Tokyo's Haneda airport a day earlier, aviation experts say.
Japan Airlines was engulfed in flames after colliding with a coast guard plane while landing on the runway. Five of the six people aboard the Coast Guard aircraft died.
The perfect evacuation on the Japan Airlines plane has stunned the world and won praise from many. Aviation experts and flight crew tell the BBC that the flight crew put in place rigorous training and the "polite" passengers obeyed safety protocols.
"I don't see a single passenger on the ground, in any of the videos I've seen, that has their luggage with them... If people were trying to get their cabin luggage, that's really dangerous because they would slow down the evacuation," said Prof Ed Galea, director of the Fire Safety Engineering Group at the University of Greenwich.
The condition of the plane, an Airbus A350, made evacuation difficult, Prof Galea said.
"This accident was scary. The plane was upside down, which meant it was difficult for the passengers to move," he said.
Only three inflatable slides could be used to evacuate the passengers, but they did not deploy properly because of the way the plane landed. The slide was very steep, which could be dangerous.
The plane's announcement system also malfunctioned during the evacuation, so the flight crew had to broadcast instructions using a megaphone and shouting, Japan Airlines said.
One passenger suffered bruises and 13 others sought medical attention due to physical discomfort, the airline said.
