A crowd of protesters toppled a monument dedicated to Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in the southern city of Ghaleh Dar on Sunday morning.
In the released footage, a person from the crowd can be heard shouting: " Am I dreaming? Hello new world!", as the monument collapses amid cheers.
According to the Norway-based Hengaw Human Rights Organization, rallies also took place in Tehran, Sanandaj in western Iran and Rasht in the north of the country. The organization reported that the crowds were forcibly dispersed by police.
Tensions in Iran have risen following recent political developments and an escalation of attacks in the region. Iranian authorities have increased the presence of security forces in several cities and restricted internet access in certain areas.
