Beijing bans exports of dual-use goods to 10 US companies and restricts public purchases from 46 others...
China announced on Monday the imposition of sanctions on 10 US companies linked to the military sector, in response to the recent decision by the United States to exclude several major Chinese technology companies from defense contracts.
China's Ministry of Commerce said Chinese companies will be banned from exporting "dual-use" products to these 10 US companies. This category includes products that can be used for both civilian and military applications. Among the affected companies are manufacturers of military drones and companies operating in the rare earth mining sector.
According to the Ministry, the measure aims to protect China's national security and is a reaction to what Beijing described as an unjustified expansion of the US list of Chinese companies linked to the military.
In a separate announcement, China's Ministry of Finance said state-run institutions would not be allowed to buy products from 46 U.S. companies. The list includes several subsidiaries of well-known defense corporations such as Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and General Dynamics. The ministry did not provide further explanation for the decision, Reuters reports.
Earlier this month, the US Department of Defense added several tech giants, including Alibaba and Baidu, to a list of companies it said had ties to the Chinese military. Baidu rejected the allegations, saying the claim that the company was connected to the military was “completely baseless.”
Companies included in this list cannot enter into military contracts with the United States government.
