The crisis in SYRIZA is deepening, as 4 MPs have announced their departure from the parliamentary group, increasing pressure on the party leadership.

The latest to declare political independence was Corinth MP Giorgos Psychogios, who became the third MP to leave SYRIZA within a day. Earlier, Panagiotopoulos and Gavrilos also made the same decision, while Greek media report that other departures are expected in the coming hours.

While a day ago, Symeon Kedikoglou also resigned.

The process began with the resignation of East Attica MP Giorgos Karameros, who gave up his parliamentary mandate to join the new political project of former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

Thessaloniki MP Katerina Notopoulou also handed in her mandate, declaring support for Tsipras' new political initiative.

Alexis Tsipras himself resigned from his mandate as an MP on October 6, 2025, presenting the decision to the Speaker of the Greek Parliament, as part of preparations for the creation of his new political formation.

In addition to the MPs, within the last 48 hours, some of the most important figures of the so-called "presidential group" of SYRIZA have also resigned.

Among them are the party's deputy secretary Anastasia Sapouna, Politburo member Giannis Mantzouranis, who has left the party completely, Youth Secretary Panos Lambrinidis-Stahtos, organizational secretary Eleni Symeonidou, as well as Politburo members Gkely Visviki, Despina Sinou and Stamatia Tsoumea.

The massive departures are being considered an indication of the deep division in SYRIZA and the alignment of a significant part of the party's structures behind Alexis Tsipras' new political initiative.
