
The former First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond, has died suddenly while giving a speech at an event in North Macedonia.
The 69-year-old felt bad and collapsed during his speech. Doctors later pronounced Salmond dead.
Alex Salmond led Scotland to independence. He has held the office of First Minister of Scotland, a post associated with that of Prime Minister, since 2007. He resigned from the post after failing to achieve Scottish independence in a referendum held in 2014.
The Prime Minister of Great Britain, Keir Starmer, who considered the 69-year-old as a "monumental figure" for more than 30 years, expressed his condolences for his passing away.
