In his first visit as president of Estonia, Alar Karis, states that his country is ready to extend cooperation with Albania.
In the interview for Top Story, the president of Estonia says that it is the moment for the two countries to cooperate in the field of tourism, cyber security and other directions.
"It is the first time I come here as president. The first time was 6 or 10 years ago, I noticed that things have changed, Tirana has changed. The purpose of the visit this time is simple. First of all, we are small countries and small countries must cooperate with each other. Estonia is part of the European Union, Albania is in the process of European integration. We came here to share our experience from the past and to have bilateral relations because we are similar, yet we are far away. We need to get to know each other better and start not only the tourism process, but also other businesses. You mention cyber security, which we will exercise as I am interested in how it will work here. We will monitor it together with your president", said the president of Estonia.
The President of Estonia, Alar Karis, spoke about the ways in which digitization works in his country.
Karis said that in Estonia everything has been digitized and citizens can perform any action from their mobile phones or computers. He even says that he signs government decisions from his mobile phone.
"Now all you need is a mobile phone and you don't even need an identity card anymore. You only have to appear in divorce cases, while in other cases, everything is online.
We are already used to it, and we even find it difficult to describe how it works. I can sign all documents from here, via mobile. I enter the PIN code and I can sign any necessary document, anywhere and everywhere. In this way we developed new initiatives, new ideas and shared this experience with everyone".
The Estonian president proposes the same thing to the Albanian government.
"One of the reasons we are here is to tell your government to open an electronic academy here. These developments are also taking place in other countries, we are not the only ones. We started early, but maybe the bigger you are, the faster you can move."
In Estonia, citizens can vote online from anywhere in the world where they are on election day.
"We managed to manage it. Anyone, anywhere can vote. They can definitely go to the ballot box. The first time we held the elections, over 50 percent voted online. The theft discussion still continues. We had an attack in 2007, but we have sophisticated defenses. It is an efficient process".
