Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of the United Arab Emirates, has warned Iran, saying his country is not “easy prey” and referring to Tehran as an “enemy.” The stance marks a marked shift from the UAE’s usual diplomatic tone toward its Gulf neighbor.
He said he "wanted to send a message to the enemy of the United Arab Emirates."
"The United Arab Emirates is beautiful, the United Arab Emirates is a model to follow, but I tell you, don't be fooled by this ," he said as he visited a hospital where civilians injured in the attacks were being treated.
"The hand of the UAE can reach and is strong, its flesh is bitter and we are not easy prey."
The comments, his first since the conflict erupted, came shortly after Emirati air defenses responded to a missile threat, despite earlier statements by the Iranian president suggesting the Gulf attacks would be halted.
