King Abdullah of Jordan and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said steps must be taken to prevent a worsening of the crisis in Gaza.
In a joint statement after a meeting in Amman, they came out against an "increase in violence and its spread".
The statement comes after Mr Abbas condemned the killing of civilians by "both sides".
The president has been the leader of the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank for the past 18 years, seen as a more moderate political entity that is willing to negotiate.
For its part, Jordan appears to be one of several nations in the region seeking to mediate any solution to the conflict.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will go to Jordan to meet with King Abdullah and Mahmoud Abbas.
