On Tuesday, the Macedonian prosecution asked the Basic Court in Skopje to impose a detention measure on former Deputy Prime Minister Artan Grubi, and the court approved the request.
Mr. Grubi and seven other people are suspected of manipulations in the "State Lottery" during the time he held the high government post. Mr. Grubi is abroad.
According to the prosecution, Artan Grubi illegally ordered the granting of licenses to several gambling and casino companies and was involved together with the former director of the Lottery, Parparim Bajrami, in the manipulated procurement of equipment for the Lottery. The damage caused to the state budget is over 8 million euros, according to the announcements of the law enforcement agencies.
Police sources in Skopje say that shortly before the raid on his apartment on Sunday, Mr. Grubi left for Kosovo, using a businessman and honorary consul of North Macedonia in Kosovo to cross the border of the neighboring country with a vehicle with diplomatic license plates. .
The Macedonian Prime Minister, Hristijan Mickoski, after coming to power, accused the "State Lottery" of illegal activity, warning that the persons responsible would be brought to justice, while the officials of the governing coalition "Vlen" have been accusing Mr. Grubi of involvement in corruption for weeks.
A day ago, through the Facebook network, Artan Grubi announced that he was abroad on a private trip, with regular documents, and that he would return to North Macedonia as soon as he finished his obligations. He called for no speculation that he had escaped.
Investigations against him began very soon after former Deputy Prime Minister Grubi and judge Enver Bexheti were determined by the US State Department for involvement in corruption. / REL
