Ceasefire proposal, journalist: Israel unclear, Biden left Netanyahu with

Middle East correspondent Alistair Bunkall, who is in Jerusalem, said Biden's pressure is on Hamas and Israel to accept the new ceasefire and hostage deal.

"I think Israel has a hand in this cease-fire proposal as it's been talked about as an Israeli deal, but I'm not entirely convinced that the Israeli government agrees after that. There will certainly be some on the far right who will oppose the proposal for truce because they want the war to continue" , said the journalist.

Bunkall says there is a "question mark" as to whether Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is behind the proposal.

"When I talked to people very close to him, as soon as Joe Biden started talking last night, they seemed very surprised and confused by it," he says.

The statement made by Netanyahu last night was not a full endorsement of what Biden said.

"They didn't reject it, but it was an ambiguous reaction," he continued.

The reporter said there is "something interesting" going on between Israeli and American leaders while adding that there is also international pressure on Hamas and Israel.

According to the journalist, Biden's message was clear that the war must end now, as America believes that Israel has achieved its objective of driving Hamas to the point where it cannot carry out another attack like the one on October 7.
