Putin announces ceasefire on Easter, Zelensky: Air raid alarms are going off

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, shortly after Putin's decision to declare a unilateral ceasefire in the war with Ukraine, posted on the X platform saying that airstrike alerts were "spreading everywhere."

Describing the situation as "another attempt by Putin to play with human life," Zelensky says that "Shahed drones in our sky reveal Putin's true attitude towards Easter and human life."

However, it is not clear whether Zelensky is referring here to the "Easter truce" announced by Putin.

Zelensky adds that Ukrainian forces are "holding positions" in the Russian Kursk region and that Ukraine's "zone of control" has expanded into the Russian Belgorod region.

Volodymyr Zelensky said 277 Ukrainian servicemen returned home from Russian captivity as part of the recent exchange with Moscow. He thanked the United Arab Emirates for brokering the exchange. He said a total of 4,552 Ukrainians - military and civilian personnel - have returned since the start of the Russian occupation in 2022.

Russian President Vladimir Putin today ordered Russian troops to implement a ceasefire in Ukraine on the occasion of Easter, starting at 6:00 p.m. and lasting until midnight on Sunday, entering Monday.

"Guided by humanitarian considerations, the Russian side declares an Easter ceasefire today, from 6:00 p.m. (Moscow time) until midnight on Sunday, starting on Monday. I order a cessation of all hostilities during this period," Putin said in a meeting broadcast live on Russian television.
