The US-China trade war intensifies, Trump "massacres" Beijing with tariffs...
President Donald Trump seems to have made up his mind to plunge the world into chaos.
According to US media, starting tomorrow he will impose an additional tariff of 84% on all Chinese imports. The news was announced by White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt. This means that all Chinese goods will be subject to a tariff of at least 104%.
The reaction comes after Beijing warned that it would impose a reciprocal tariff of 34 percent on American products starting tomorrow.
China's reaction came after the 34% tariffs that Trump imposed days ago. But it seems that the head of the White House does not accept such a thing and has decided to increase the American tariffs to 104 percent.
" Countries like China, which have chosen to retaliate and try to double down on their mistreatment of American workers, are making a mistake. President Trump has a pillar of steel and he will not break ," Leavitt told reporters Tuesday.
She declined to say what conditions, if any, Trump would consider for lowering tariffs on China.
China was America's second-largest source of imports last year, sending a total of $439 billion in goods to the U.S., while the U.S. exported $144 billion worth of goods to China. The reciprocal tariffs threaten to hurt domestic industries and are poised to result in layoffs.
Dozens of other countries, as well as the European Union, also face a midnight deadline to negotiate new tariffs. Those rates, which Trump proposed last week, range from 11% to 50%.
Leavitt told reporters that despite several conversations with world leaders aimed at negotiating lower tariffs, Trump has little appetite for delaying his plans.
Speaking to Trump earlier Tuesday, Leavitt said: "He expects these tariffs to go into effect." / Pamphlet
