Iranian government attempts to quell discontent, raises minimum wage by 60% amid
Protests in Iran

The Iranian government has decided to increase the minimum wage by more than 60%, in an attempt to alleviate social discontent that has increased in recent months due to the difficult economic situation in the country.

Iran's Labor Minister announced that, with government approval, the minimum monthly wage will increase from 103 million rials to 166 million rials during the next Persian year, which begins in the coming days. The news was reported by the Iranian Tasnim news agency.

Iran revises the minimum wage annually in line with inflation, which has increased significantly due to international sanctions and the economic pressure the country experienced before the war that began on February 28, following Israeli-American airstrikes.

In addition to raising the minimum wage, the Iranian government has also announced similar increases in family benefits, another measure aimed at easing pressure on families.

The decision comes months after anti-government protests, which were initially sparked by deteriorating economic conditions and the rising cost of living.

According to data from the economic website Bonbast, the Iranian currency currently trades at around 1.47 million rials to one US dollar, reflecting the ongoing pressure on the country's economy.
