Hundreds of rockets, but zero victims/ How the 'Iron Dome' failed

What is the Iron Dome anti-missile system that protects Israel?

Iran has launched a ferocious attack on Israel, launching hundreds of missiles. So far, only two injured people have been reported, while there are no victims. The "Iron Dome" covering Israel has worked for the best and the rockets have been destroyed in the air.

But what is the Iron Dome anti-missile system that protects Israel?

The system uses radars to detect and intercept missiles and drones.

Iron Dome was developed by Israel's state-owned Rafael Advanced Defense Systems with US support. It consists of a series of truck-towed mobile missile units located across the country.

When their radars detect a threat, the information is sent to a "battle management center," where military personnel analyze it, predicting its path and point of impact and deciding which missile to use to intercept it.

Counter-missiles are then fired directly to neutralize it.

The dome, known as Kippat Barzel in Hebrew, reacts within seconds and operates 24 hours a day.

It was originally designed to protect cities and strategic sites against missiles with a range of 2.5 to 43 miles, but is thought to have been extended.

It has intercepted more than 90% of rockets fired at Israel, with a naval version deployed to protect ships and other assets in 2017.

This is why the Israeli death toll in the current war with Hamas has remained low, while those in Gaza continue to rise.

Iran's April 13 attack saw 170 drones, 120 ballistic missiles and 30 cruise missiles, "99%" of which were intercepted by Iron Dome, according to Israel Defense Forces data.

It is currently reported that the system has shot down the vast majority of missiles launched by Iran. The Israeli army reports that the attack is over and people are coming out of the areas where they were sheltering.
