The US and Israel want to overthrow the regime in Tehran. Targeted assassinations are aimed at weakening the elite. The most prominent victim: Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei...
With the assassination of the Supreme Leader in the first 24 hours of the war, Israel and the US have dealt a major blow to the regime in Tehran. Now, the rest of the power circle must be toppled. Therefore, bombs continue to fall on areas where key figures in the Iranian power apparatus are suspected. Several senior officials have already been killed in such attacks this weekend, including Ali Larijani and former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Iran's power system consists of several spheres: the office and inner circle of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the powerful Revolutionary Guard as the center of military power, and the political leadership. A provisional council has been formed within the political leadership and has nominally assumed power in the Islamic Republic.
An infographic published by NZZ sheds light on the internal structure of power in Iran, showing the key figures surrounding the supreme leader. The diagram highlights the division between the inner circle, the military and the political leadership, providing an insight into the organization of the ruling elite in the country.
Leaders who have been executed are marked in red.

The infographic highlights the dominant role of military structures, especially the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi is shown as the head of the armed forces' general staff.
On the political side, important figures include heads of the National Security Council, interim president Masoud Pezeshkian, and ministers of key lines such as defense, security, and diplomacy.
Exact figures on further casualties from both sides of the war are not yet available. Iranian authorities reported more than 800 deaths from attacks on Iran, but also on positions held by the pro-Iranian Hezbollah in Lebanon.
According to preliminary figures from the governments of the affected countries, the Iranian attacks have resulted in nearly 80 deaths; more than a dozen American soldiers have also been killed. Thousands of injuries have been reported on both sides, and the real number is likely to be significantly higher.
