Russia-Ukraine, peace talks on June 2 in Istanbul; Kremlin does not rule out

Russia proposed holding the next round of talks with Ukraine on June 2, with Istanbul as the meeting place.

As Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated, the proposal has been officially transmitted, while Russian agencies confirm that Turkey is the proposed country to host the talks.

Istanbul had hosted the latest round of negotiations between the two sides, in an attempt to find a political solution to the ongoing military conflict.

So far, the Ukrainian government has not made a public statement or response to Moscow's proposal. Kiev's stance remains unknown.

According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is possible.

But it should be the result of negotiations between Moscow and Kiev on various issues.

Specifically, the Kremlin spokesman stressed that "such meetings can only take place if there are specific agreements between the two delegations." The talks, according to Peskov, must yield significant results to lead to such a meeting.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is reportedly willing to consider a peace deal with Ukraine, provided a set of strict conditions imposed by Moscow are met, according to exclusive information cited by Reuters from three Russian sources with knowledge of the negotiations.

The Kremlin's main demands include Ukraine's clear neutrality, legally binding guarantees that NATO will not expand further eastward, and the progressive lifting of a significant part of Western sanctions against Russia. In addition, Moscow is seeking a resolution of the issue of frozen Russian assets in the West and institutional guarantees for the protection of the Russian-speaking population in Ukraine.
