"Stay away, loser"/ After the slap, lip-reading experts shed light on

A video that went viral within minutes showed a slightly awkward moment when Brigitte, the wife of the French President, punches Emmanuel Macron in the face as the couple was about to descend the plane's steps on the runway of the Vietnamese capital for a diplomatic visit.

Emmanuel Macron, after noticing the cameras and trying to ignore the incident by waving, got off the plane with the first lady. However, Brigitte refused her husband's offer, preferring to hold on to the railing of the stairs.

The video went viral online within hours, drawing the attention of experts who tried to decipher the couple's interaction. According to a lip-reading expert, Brigitte, as she passed her husband, whispered to him in French: "Dégage, espêce de loser," or "stay away, loser!"

He, taken by surprise, tried to calm her down. “Essayons, s'il te plaît” (“Let's try it, please”), is what he said, but received a firm “no” from Brigitte.

The debate ended with a "je vois" ("I understand") from the French president.

The Elysee initially denied the authenticity of the images but later confirmed them. A close friend of the president described it as a simple "quarrel" between the couple.

"It was a moment for the president and his wife to relax one last time before the start of the trip, laughing out loud," the president's entourage told reporters.

"It was a moment of closeness. It's not enough to give conspiracy theorists something to debate," the Elysee chief of staff interrupted curtly, attributing the negative comments mainly to pro-Russian circles.

Putting aside the squabbles, the French president is busy on a nearly week-long tour of Southeast Asia: after his first stop in Vietnam, he will also visit Indonesia and Singapore.
