The US president offered everything for a deal that never happened. Putin treated him as a harmless, puppet figure while continuing the invasion. After 'diplomatic love', Trump takes his words back...
Donald Trump, convinced that he would achieve “peace within 24 hours” for the war in Ukraine, has been faced with a cold wall by Vladimir Putin, a leader who knows his psychology well and uses it skillfully. Even before his first meeting with Trump in 2017, the Kremlin had requested detailed reports on how the businessman-turned-president’s mind works.
Instead of facing a difficult partner, Putin found himself facing a “dealmaker” who defined diplomacy as a business deal. Trump offered a lot: minimizing Russian aggression, recognizing annexed territories, refusing to extend NATO’s defense of Ukraine, to sabotaging American agencies investigating Russian election interference and war crimes in Donbas.
While Trump expected hugs and thanks, the Kremlin returned a cold smile and bitter irony: they described him as an emotionally "overloaded" leader, words that, for a figure who builds power on authority, are more stinging than an insult.
Putin, for whom every concession is an open door to restoring Russia’s imperial glory, used Trump as a tool to neutralize the West and destroy Euro-Atlantic unity. All this while Trump flirted with the idea of removing the US from a war that, according to him, “is more the Europeans’ business.”
This behavior has been warned about before in analyses of authoritarian personalities who admire dictators, but end up being manipulated by them. And today, as Trump sees how his "friend" does not return even a temporary ceasefire, he is forced to give up even the dream of the Nobel Peace Prize./ Pamphlet
