At a time when the war in Ukraine is at a major stalemate and neither side is making significant progress, the Kremlin has discovered an "ace up its sleeve" that could somewhat dampen the momentum of the West with aid to Kiev.

Today, Russia has announced that its newest nuclear weapons system, the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile, is now operational.

It was the general director of the state space corporation Roscosmos himself, who in an appearance for the state media declared that "the Sarmat strategic system has been put on combat duty."

The deadly Satan 2 nuclear missile can fly over 11,000 miles, carry 15 warheads and has the potential to destroy an area the size of the United Kingdom in a single strike.

According to experts, the new supersonic missile can already reach the US, making America vulnerable to a possible Russian attack.

The RS-28 Sarmat missile, so-called Satan 2 by NATO, has a speed of 7 km per second, and is designed with an anti-missile system, so attacks against it are practically ineffective.

The deployment of the Satan 2 system will make Western countries think twice about sending weapons to Ukraine, which Russia considers a "red line".

Russian President Vladimir Putin has used nuclear war as a threat since the start of the invasion of Ukraine. With the addition of Satan 2 to Moscow's fearsome arsenal, the rhetoric of a nuclear war is expected to add to his public appearances.

Recall that the Sarmat will replace the Soviet-era Voevoda missiles, known by the NATO designation SS-18 "Satan", in Russia's strategic arsenal. As the successor to the SS-18, the Sarmat has been nicknamed "Satan II" in the West.
