Moscow has reacted sharply to Western plans to deploy a multinational security force in Ukraine. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the Kremlin “will never discuss foreign intervention in Ukraine, in any shape or form,” calling the idea “completely unacceptable and undermining any kind of security.”
" This is a firm position of Russia and the West should take it into account before bringing this topic back to the table ," Zakharova warned.
Her statement came immediately after the summit in Paris, where French President Emmanuel Macron, in the presence of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders, announced the creation of a coalition of 26 countries that are ready to send troops to Ukraine, as part of a "security force" that will enter into force after a peace agreement with Russia.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen called today's meeting "decisive," stressing that the future of the entire continent is at stake. " We all know: Europe's security is at stake. Today, leaders supported the plan to guarantee the long-term protection of Ukraine ," she said after the summit.
According to the presented plan, the "security force" will include land, sea and air capabilities, and will have the mission of rebuilding and strengthening the Ukrainian army after the end of the war, serving as a guarantee against any future Russian aggression.
Macron also warned that the US remains a key actor, while the Trump administration is expected to finalize the details of American support in the coming days.
For the Kremlin, this move is a direct provocation. Zakharova's statement shows that Moscow considers any presence of Western troops in Ukraine as a violation of its sovereignty and an existential threat to Russia's national security.
On the other hand, the West sees this plan as the only way to avoid a second Russian aggression against Ukraine if the current war ends without a complete victory for Kiev.
