"We are on high alert," Von der Leyen: Putin is dividing Europe

Putin has blamed Europe for his ongoing war in Ukraine. He has boasted about what he has called the 'cracks in the European edifice' and the 'shaking unity' within our Union. He does not hide his joy and support for all his loyal friends in Europe who are doing his job for him." This is how Ursula von der Leyen defended herself in the Strasbourg chamber before the vote on the two no-confidence motions filed against her, which will be voted on next Thursday. The President of the European Commission thus accuses the Patriots of Le Pen and Orbán, as well as the left, of acting in the service of the Kremlin to weaken the EU and justify the war against Kiev.

“According to her – this is the oldest deception in the world: sowing discord to turn Europeans against each other. It is a trap.” The head of the European executive is convinced that the airspace violations in Estonia, Poland and Denmark are also part of the same strategy: “Europe is on high alert.” Therefore, her call is for unity against the Russian enemy.

However, the Commission president is aware that there is growing discontent in the European Parliament with her, from her stance on Israel to the issue of customs tariffs. She has promised more “cooperation” and has asked all commissioners to be present for yesterday’s debate. The biggest fear is that her traditional majority could be further eroded. However, it is unlikely that the motion of no confidence will be adopted.

But that the internal "enemy" is playing the Kremlin's game is understood from the words of Jordan Bardella, Le Pen's representative: "We will vote with our heads held high in favor of this motion of no confidence. This is a vote against Macron's Europe, von der Leyen's Europe." The ECR group, which also includes Fratelli d'Italia - Giorgia Meloni's party - often keeps "one foot in two boats" and leaves "freedom of vote."

The Left, which includes the M5S and the Avs, is demanding her ouster. "Mrs von der Leyen - warned the group's leader, Manon Aubry - you must leave. You have accompanied the genocide in Gaza." All the pro-Europeans have lined up in her defense: the EPP, the S&D and Renew./ La Repubblica
