US President Donald Trump is expected to make what he called a "big" statement today, after saying the US would send "various pieces" of "very sophisticated" military equipment to Ukraine.
Trump's statement is expected to come after his meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the White House at 10:00 a.m. local time.
Ukrainians are grudgingly welcoming reports of US arms deliveries, but they are also cautious, writes the BBC's correspondent in Kiev.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says he had "productive" talks with US envoy to Ukraine Keith Kellogg in Kiev today.
In a statement, the Ukrainian president's office said the meeting discussed the prospect of a ceasefire, as well as the purchase of weapons to defend Ukraine.
It describes how the meeting "also focused on the overall situation on the front lines," as well as "the needs of Ukrainian fighters," for whom Kellogg expressed his respect.
The statement also says that after Trump suggested that the US would send Patriot missile defense systems to Ukraine, Zelensky "confirmed Ukraine's readiness to purchase American weapons, particularly air defense systems."
"The parties also discussed joint production of drones, the possibility of direct purchases of Ukrainian UAVs from the United States, and the potential for arms procurement in cooperation with European partners," it added.
In Russia, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov says it is "very important" that talks on Ukraine continue.
