Senate Armed Services Chairman Roger Wicker is planning to hold the first public oversight hearing on the Iran war soon, with senior Defense Department officials set to testify. Details on when and who will appear have not yet been determined.
Asked if he expects Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Cain to appear, Wicker said he does not have that information.
“I can’t give you that information yet, but I hope to hold public hearings with senior department officials. That would be oversight, yes, of the war itself. We will conduct oversight ,” he said.
Wicker twice said, "I hope" it will be in public session, making it clear that a final decision has not yet been made on this point.
To date, there have been no open oversight hearings of the conflict in the Republican-led Congress, although there have been several classified hearings for members.
