White House Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt has provided details about the peace plan for Ukraine that has been reported in recent days. She said that the plan has been worked on in secret for nearly a month and that the US has been engaged with both sides on this plan.
" Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Marco Rubio have been quietly working on a plan for the last month or so. They have been engaging with both sides, Russia and Ukraine equally, to understand what these countries would commit to in order to see a lasting and sustainable peace ," she told reporters.
Leavitt added that talks are ongoing, but stressed that he would not "judge the details" of the plan.
" It's a good plan for both Russia and Ukraine, and we believe it should be acceptable to both sides and we are working hard to make it happen. Very optimistic after the talks ," she said.
According to Leavitt, US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll met with Volodymyr Zelensky today where he presented the plan and that he was optimistic.
" We spoke with him, he is very optimistic after that meeting. We are having good conversations with both sides regarding the end of this war ," she concluded.
