NATO chief Mark Rutte will visit Washington tomorrow for meetings with US President Donald Trump and senior members of his cabinet.
The press release announcing the visit does not give a specific reason for the trip, however, Trump has recently stated that he would be willing to send weapons to Ukraine through NATO.
The US President has also promised to make a "major statement" tomorrow regarding Russia - which some interpret as support for a new sanctions bill against Moscow.
During the two-day visit, in addition to meeting with Trump, Rutte will also hold talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
Rutte drew attention last month after a meeting in The Hague with Trump, where he called the US president a “babush.” Referring to the harsh language Trump used in discussing the 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran, Rutte said wryly: “Babus sometimes has to use strong language.”
The White House reacted humorously to the exchange, posting a message on social media that said: "Grandpa is back home."
