Three people have died as a result of floods from the destruction of the Nova Kakhovka dam in southern Ukraine. Foreign media reports that these are the first confirmed deaths from the flood. Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy expressed fear for the lives of Ukrainians in the disaster-hit areas.
The collapse of a dam near the front line in Ukraine has flooded dozens of villages and parts of a nearby town, sparking fears of a humanitarian disaster.
Officials have said thousands will have to flee their homes, and many are already doing so without help. Zelenskiy claimed that the Russian occupying authorities "were not even trying to help the people".
"The occupiers are simply abandoning people in terrible conditions. No help, no water, left on the roofs of houses in submerged communities,” he said.
