One of the worst-hit cases is St Martin's in Caerphilly, Wales, where more than 250 students and teachers fell ill, forcing them to return to online learning. Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhoea, high fever, cough and fatigue, with a recovery period of around seven days.
The Daily Mail reports that in County Londonderry, 170 students were absent in one day due to various illnesses. British schools are dealing with a special strain of flu, known as H3N2 “superflu”, which is spreading faster and causing more severe symptoms. London has tripled the number of patients hospitalized with the flu compared to last year.
Health authorities are recommending the use of masks to reduce the spread of the virus, while the NHS warns of a large wave of infections and a significant increase in the number of hospital admissions.
