The European Union has reacted to the new security strategy proposed by US President Donald Trump.
According to sources from Brussels, the European Union welcomes the priority given by the new US security strategy regarding the end of Russia's war against Ukraine.
However, the same sources underline that Europe and the United States of America share the responsibility to support a just and lasting peace.
"Europe remains strategically and culturally vital to the United States. Transatlantic trade remains one of the pillars of the global economy and American prosperity," Brussels sources report.
According to the same sources, "Europe relies on the US for defense. In recent years, we have strengthened our efforts and will continue to do so."
We are strengthening our defence capabilities and our defence industrial base. Europe is massively increasing defence investment, both to strengthen its security and to continue to contribute decisively to the Alliance, alongside a coordinated effort to strengthen the defence industry to produce critical capabilities.
This is why the Commission created the conditions for an additional investment package of €800 billion in March 2025."
Regarding the 120 million euro fine imposed by the European Commission on the "X" platform, after more than two years of investigations for violating the rules of the Digital Services Act, and the attack launched by Elon Musk on the EU, the same sources from Brussels emphasize that "decisions related to the European Union are taken by the European Union, for the European Union, including those related to its regulatory autonomy, the protection of freedom of speech and the rules-based international order."
