A strong explosion that occurred during the night in a reception center for asylum seekers in San Lorenzo Nuovo (Viterbo), has caused panic. The explosion happened at 01:00 at night.
12 people were injured, while four of them are in serious condition, they were transported to different hospitals in the area.
The center used to accommodate families housed a total of 31 people. There are also some children among the injured.
Firefighters, rescuers, law enforcement and civil defense intervened at the scene.
"There was an explosion, probably due to a gas leak, but the investigation will clarify the exact causes of what happened. All 31 people expected in the facility were transported to the hospital to undergo checks, " said the mayor of San Lorenzo Nuovo.
The center is located in the industrial area of San Lorenzo Nuovo, in the Alto Viterbo area and consists of two residential units intended for housing non-EU citizens.
